Beacon recognises company at the cutting edge Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology has been awarded Beacon status in recognition of its consistent growth and product innovation. Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oxford Instruments plc, specialises in the design, manufacture and support of process tools and systems for semiconductor, optoelectronics and nanotechnology applications. The company recently celebrated its 25th year, and over the last two years has increased its workforce by 60 per cent, with hopes to employ a further fifty people in the next two. It has launched several new products this year, including its FlexAL system for “atomic layer deposition” which allows ultra-thin films of materials to be grown literally one atomic layer at a time, critical to enabling the next generation of advanced semiconductors, and aims to continue bringing two new products to market every year from now onwards. In addition, its relocation in 2008 to the new 60,000 sq ft purpose-built facility at the former RAF Locking site, near Weston-super-Mare, will allow the company to double output over the next three years. The site is owned jointly by the South West of England Regional Development Agency (RDA) and English Partnerships and has been earmarked for the creation of an employment-led mixed-use development as part of the wider regeneration of the town. To be awarded Beacon company status, Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology had to demonstrate expertise across a number of sectors, including performance, growth and innovation. Beacon South West, a South West RDA initiative that has been running for two years, identifies, recognises and brings together the South West’s leading, high-growth companies to share best practice and ideas to boost the region’s economy., Keith Edwards, finance director at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, said: “2006 was a big year for us as we continued to grow, innovate and make ambitious plans for the future of the company at Locking Parklands. We are proud to achieve Beacon status in acknowledgement of this.” Sue Baker, director of Beacon South West, said: “We are delighted to welcome Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology to the Beacon network. In its sector, it has pioneered and led the industry, creating jobs and innovating new products as well as contributing significantly to the regional economy. It is a fantastic role model for other businesses that are aspiring to achieve such growth and success.” | |
